Our History: |
In 1932, Frank D. Vogt opened Vogt’s Cash Grocery, becoming the first grocery store owner of generations to follow. Frank D. Vogt and his six sons started by opening a retail business in 1925 that purchased and shipped sweet cream. Seven years later, Frank and his sons- Albert, Sam, Frank Jr., Jake, Arnold, and John- expanded their business and opened Vogt’s Cash Grocery. After the opening, Sam, Jake, and Frank Jr. left the family business. Frank Jr. even tried to open a store to compete with the family business. Arnold, Albert, and John continued to work with their father and took over the business after Frank Sr.’s sudden death. The store’s name was then changed to Vogt Brothers Grocery and each brother picked an area to oversee. Arnold managed the produce section, John ran the egg business, and Albert oversaw the entire store. John became the only owner, as his brothers suffered sudden, heart-related deaths. John’s son, Jerold, took over the produce section and was always interested in helping his dad out at the store. When John died at age 57, Jerold began to run the store for his mother at age 20. Jerold bought the store from his mother in 1974. Jerold and his wife Karleen had two children, Todd and John. His boys also showed an interest in the family business and both joined full time after graduating from Tabor College. Soon after, Jerold and his family decided a new, bigger store was needed and the business moved to Hillsboro Heights. After the death of Jerold Vogt, Karleen became the business’ sole owner, with her son Todd as manager. |

We have a tradition of providing personal service to our customers. This includes a 10% discount every Wednesday, an in-store ATM machine, and double coupons everyday! W.I.C., Kansas Vision Card, Western Union, and money orders are accepted. We also offer a hot breakfast served Monday through Saturday from 6 A.M. to 9 A.M. |
